What is red-crested korhaan?

The Red-crested korhaan is a bird species found in Africa. It is also known as the red-crested bustard and is part of the Otididae family. The bird is relatively large, with males weighing around 1.2 kg and females around 1 kg. It has a distinctive crest on its head that is reddish-brown in color and a neck ruff of black feathers.

Red-crested korhaans are common in the savannahs and grasslands of Sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from South Africa to Ethiopia. They feed on insects, seeds, and small reptiles and is known for its dramatic courtship displays where the male will puff up its feathers, fan its tail and make booming sounds to attract a mate.
